EVENT MANAGEMENT CERTIFICATE PROGRAM
The Event Management Certificate Program is the founding member of the International Consortium of Event Management Programs. This standardized curriculum is offered throughout the world and is the first comprehensive program in higher education providing classroom and distance learning courses leading to industry certification in special events. The program is designed to meet your needs, whether you enroll for one course or earn your Professional Certificate in Event Management.
Courses in the Event Management Program are taught by a faculty that comprises over 300 years of experience in event management. Instructors include managers of major event marketing projects and centers, experts in the Olympic games movement, owners and presidents of corporate event management firms and associations, and experts in event marketing and sponsorship. The knowledge and skills that one gains from program participation are useful to both beginning and experienced event management professionals and to volunteers in special event activities.

Certificate Option
The Event Management Program offers a professional Certificate in Event Management.
Core Courses
Students may elect to take any Event Management course. There are four core courses that are recommended as prerequisites to any elective.

Program Format
Each Business Day course meets from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. for one or two consecutive days. Traditional Weekend courses meet on Friday from 5:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. and Saturday from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. The weekend schedule allows working professionals to obtain the knowledge they need with minimal interruption to their busy schedules. Each course is also available in a distance learning format.

Classes are held at The George Washington University School of Busines, Duques Hall, 2201 G Street, N.W., Washington, DC 20052.
Distance Learning
Courses offered through distance education use books, correspondence, and the Internet. Passwords for distance learning are emailed to registered students within 14 days of registration. The course is completed after submitting and passing a mastery quiz. Students typically finish a course in about a month, although there is no specific time allotted to each course. Distance Learning courses must be completed within 2 years of registration and are non-refundable.
Free Informational Seminars
Join GW's master teachers at a free seminar and learn about current trends, career paths, and how to prepare for a certificate. Seminars begin promptly at 7 p.m. and conclude within one hour including questions and answers. Preview course materials, meet faculty, and receive answers to your questions about the program and the industry. Seating is extremely limited. Certificate Requirements and Program Policies
- Complete four core courses and three electives within two years of enrollment in the first course.
- Complete a minimum of 100 hours of practicum experience.
- Submit a "professional" portfolio to demonstrate your ability to manage an event or to analyze and synergize what you have learned in the program.
- Upon successful completion of entire Program (7 classes), portfolio, and practicum hours, a student receives a Certificate in Professional Event Management from The George Washington Univers\ity School of Business.
- Open enrollment policy. There are no requirements for enrollment in this program.
- Choose specific courses, or the entire certificate program.
- All courses include a brief mastery quiz to assist students with evaluating their level of performance at the conclusion of the course.
- All in-class courses include a student workbook.
- You may substitute an in-class presentation with a distance learning course; however, no refund will be granted.

Please note it is not necessary to obtain any textbook prior to beginning the course. These readings are recommended, but not required and you do not need to purchase them in order to complete the course. They are provided as suggested sources of additional information and perspectives for those that wish to explore the topics covered in your course further.
Workbooks will be provided to all in-class students. Distance learning students will be given an ID and Password for each class via email and can download the workbook.
